Joe Aribo earned plaudits for scoring a ridiculous goal for Southampton this afternoon in a pre-season friendly match with Villarreal, Gidipoint.com reports.
The 26-year-old stole the show with a remarkable individual goal, wasting no time in showing the Saints supporters what he is capable of.
The Spanish media were so amazed by Aribo’s skills that they dubbed him ‘Maradona’ in reference to the Argentinian legend’s famous goal against England.
The Nigerian international picked up the ball deep inside his own half before driving up the pitch.
Aribo displayed his famous close-control to weave past four or five Villareal defenders as they lay stricken on the turf before showing fantastic composure to curl an effort into the back of net.
Aribo clearly enjoyed the virtuoso strike as he celebrated in front of the home fans and it was reminiscent of his famous goal for Rangers against Braga in the Europa League.
Aribo will hope to be handed a starting berth next week when Southampton face Tottenham in their Premier League opener.
