Hirving Lozano has firmly shut down rumors linking him with a potential return to his boyhood club, Pachuca, ahead of the 2025 Club World Cup. Despite speculation suggesting that the Mexican winger could return on loan from San Diego FC, Lozano made it clear that he is focused on his current commitment in MLS.
Speaking after San Diego FC’s 3-2 win over LAFC, where he made a 18-minute cameo after recovering from a muscle injury, Lozano said: “I haven’t spoken to anyone… I’m happy here in San Diego and dream of being here for many years.”
The 28-year-old’s statement comes amid rumors fueled by the upcoming Club World Cup, which will feature a new 32-team format, and Liga MX clubs’ potential move to sign additional players for the tournament. However, Lozano’s priority remains regaining full fitness and impressing the national team coach, Javier Aguirre, as he aims for a place in Mexico’s squad for the next World Cup.
Lozano, who previously had a highly successful spell with Pachuca, where he won the Clausura 2016 Liga MX title and the 2016-17 CONCACAF Champions Cup, has struggled to stay fit since moving to MLS. His recovery is key for both his club and national team ambitions.
Currently sitting in third place in the MLS Western Conference with 11 points, San Diego FC will face the Seattle Sounders on Matchday 7 next Saturday. Lozano’s 18-minute appearance against LAFC marks his first game after missing three matches due to injury, with coach Mikey Varas gradually easing him back into full action.
