Marco Pašalić, the 24-year-old winger for Orlando City, is making waves in Major League Soccer, but his path to professional soccer was anything but conventional. Born in Germany to Croatian immigrants, Pašalić’s journey to the top of the soccer world is a testament to perseverance and dedication.
Growing up, he balanced his passion for soccer with a demanding job in construction, working while playing U18 and U19 football. Reflecting on his early years, Pašalić shared in a recent interview, “I saw that school was not for me, and my father told me I have to work. It was difficult, but it taught me a lot in my life.”
Now, with Orlando City, Pašalić is emerging as a rising star in MLS. He’s currently tied for third in the MLS Golden Boot race, with four goals in seven games, and even won Goal of the Matchday in Matchday 6 for a stunning strike.
Despite a goalless draw against Philadelphia Union, Orlando City remains in sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 11 points. Pašalić and his team will look to build on their form as they face the New York Red Bulls on April 12, followed by CF Montreal on April 19, and Atlanta United on April 26.
Pašalić’s story is one of determination and belief, and it’s clear he’s ready to continue writing his own remarkable soccer tale.
