An 18-year-old woman has been taken into custody by the Yobe State Police Command following allegations that she severely injured her husband during a domestic dispute in Potiskum Local Government Area.
The incident took place on Friday, according to information obtained by PUNCH Metro on Monday. The victim sustained critical injuries during the altercation.
Police spokesperson Dungus Abdulkarim explained that officers responded to an emergency call after the victim was discovered in his room with severe injuries. On February 6, our officers responded to a distress call about a man found lying in his room in a pool of blood, Abdulkarim said. We rushed to the scene and, finding no one else present, immediately transported him to a clinic before transferring him to Azare Medical Centre for advanced treatment.
The suspect reportedly left the scene following the attack. After an intensive search, authorities apprehended her on Monday morning. At the time of the incident, the wife fled, and we were unable to locate her until early this morning, Abdulkarim stated. She has been arrested, and we are currently investigating the circumstances that led to her using a sharp object to inflict such severe harm on her husband.
While the victim has identified his wife as the assailant, police have not yet obtained a comprehensive statement from him due to the extent of his injuries. We have not been able to get any statement from the husband due to the pain from the injury he sustained, the spokesperson confirmed.
Authorities indicated that additional information will be released as the investigation progresses.
This case highlights mounting concerns about domestic violence incidents that result in serious harm or fatalities. In March 2025, PUNCH Metro reported another tragic case in which Lagos State Police arrested Peter Dike for allegedly fatally stabbing his wife during an argument at their home in the Oke-Ira Ilogbo Eremi area.
