Ivy Ifeoma, the wife of Nigerian singer Paul Okoye, recently offered her perspective on marriage and financial independence for women.
In an Instagram post, Ivy urged women not to make marrying a wealthy man the central goal of their lives. Instead, she encouraged women to focus on building their own financial stability and independence, emphasizing the importance of self-reliance over depending on a partner for economic security.
Addressing ongoing discussions about the age difference between herself and Okoye, Ivy clarified that she was already financially independent before their relationship began. “This is my take on marrying a rich man. Before you come for me, know that I was a millionaire before I met Paul Okoye,” she stated.
She continued, “Honestly, marrying a rich man shouldn’t be anyone’s primary goal. Would you want to marry someone just because they’re rich? It’s their money, not yours. I’d rather you say you want to marry a generous person. Don’t get me wrong, marrying someone wealthy can open doors and present opportunities, but my advice to women is to focus on becoming rich themselves.”
Ivy was introduced to the public as Okoye’s partner in December 2022 at the age of 22. The couple welcomed their first child in November 2024. Their relationship has sparked social media debate, with critics pointing to Okoye’s previous marriage to Anita Isama, which lasted eight years.
In May 2024, Ivy and Paul Okoye celebrated their traditional marriage rites in Abia State.
