Benedict Johnson, a well-known Nollywood actor, is currently undergoing medical treatment for a health issue that requires surgery, according to confirmation from the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria (AGN).
AGN president Abubakar Yakubu addressed the situation on Saturday following public concern sparked by a viral video showing Johnson undergoing an MRI scan.
The video led to widespread speculation about the actor’s condition. Yakubu stated that the guild is fully aware of Johnson’s health challenges and is committed to supporting him through his treatment.
Yes, he is ill. He requires surgery. The guild is aware, and we are offering our full support to ensure he receives the necessary care, Yakubu said.
Johnson, who holds a degree in Mass Communication from Abia State University, Uturu, began his acting career with the landmark Nollywood film ‘Living In Bondage’ and later featured in ‘Stolen Bible’. Before entering the film industry, he pursued music, recording his first demo with The Dready Boys between 1989 and 1990.
In March, Johnson opened up about a challenging phase in his career, revealing he went five years without landing an acting role. During that period, no filmmakers reached out to him, prompting his move to Abuja, where he joined prayer programmes led by Jerry Eze, despite advice from colleagues who doubted Abuja’s prospects as a film industry hub.
