Armed hoodlums reportedly stormed the Oyinlola DC Primary School collation centre in Okuku, Osun State, on Sunday, disrupting the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Witnesses said the attackers, numbering about eight to ten, entered the premises unnoticed, fired shots into the air, and seized several packs of PVCs before fleeing the scene. The sudden violence caused chaos, with people at the centre scattering for safety.
A local resident, Gbadebo, recounted that the hoodlums went straight for the PVCs placed near INEC staff and made away with them. “Some of us were there to collect our PVCs. Suddenly, shots were fired, and people ran in all directions. The attackers went directly to where the PVCs were kept and took several packs,” he said.
Confirming the incident, Osun State Police Command spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi stated that Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan has condemned the attack and ordered a thorough investigation to identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible.
Ojelabi added that tactical and intelligence units have been deployed, with efforts underway to recover the stolen PVCs and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
The police urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, and encouraged anyone with credible information to assist the investigation by contacting the nearest police station or using the Command’s emergency lines.
