Arsenal earned a dramatic 2-2 draw at Bayern Munich on Wednesday, thanks to Declan Rice’s late equaliser in a thrilling Champions League clash.
The Gunners took an early blow when Bukayo Saka limped off just eight minutes into the match. His replacement, Eberechi Eze, wasted little time making an impact, opening the scoring after 25 minutes with a well-timed run and composed finish, confirmed by VAR after an initial offside flag.
Bayern quickly responded. Harry Kane, the subject of pre-match Ballon d’Or discussions, delivered a sublime pass to Alphonso Davies, who slotted home to level the score. Kane continued to torment his familiar Premier League rivals and, after the break, put Bayern ahead by converting a penalty—his 16th goal in 23 appearances against Arsenal and his 10th consecutive Champions League game with a goal, leaving him just one shy of Cristiano Ronaldo’s record.
Despite missing key players like Michael Olise, Joshua Kimmich, and Jamal Musiala, Bayern remained a constant threat. However, Arsenal showed resilience. With eight minutes left, substitute Viktor Gyokeres set up Rice, who fired home to secure Arsenal a valuable point.
The result means Arsenal remain top of their group with seven points from three games, two ahead of Bayern. The draw also marks only the second time this season that Arsenal have dropped points in 12 matches across all competitions.
Reflecting on the match, Harry Kane told DAZN: “We looked dangerous, we got the goal and we had a moment where we could have killed off the game. Probably a draw was a fair result overall.”
Arsenal forward Kai Havertz added: “It was a top-notch game for both sides. We can be proud of our performance, especially since it’s anything but easy to hold your own here. Bayern is one of the best teams in Europe.”
