Nigerian Forward Emmanuel Dennis opened scoring as Club Brugge got the better of a hapless RSC Anderlecht in a Belgian League game at the Jan Breydel Stadium on Sunday Evening.
The year old dazzling Nigerian winger scored as early as the 3rd minute of the encounter when he rose unmarked in the 18 yard box to connect with a corner from Hans Vanaken Karim Belhocine
Club Brugge coach Ivan Leko had bravely but bizarrely opted to play with Dennis as a wingback, just like his Compatriot at the club Arnaut Danjuma on the other side and then also play with two strikers with Wesley and Rezaei, with Vanaken playing behind.
The tactical shift paid off as Brugge were the more offensive of the 2 teams and got ahead shortly through the exceptional Dennis.
However and surprisingly against the run of play Anderlecht equalized when Knowledge Musona bundled in the ball off a low pass from Amuzu to make it 1-1.
Dennis was driving proceedings for Brugge down the flank and almost helped his side go up again when after some good work freed Rezaei who could not direct his shot past the Anderlecht goalkeeper.
Hans Vanaken scored on 43 minutes after a nice double pass with Vormer through the heart of the defense to give Brugge all 3 points
Dennis was on for 90 minutes while his equally impressive compatriot Arnaut Danjuma was on for 65 minutes.
With the victory Club Brugge jumps over Anderlecht to the first spot as Anderlecht dropped points for the 1st time this season
Club Brugge leads with thirteen points ahead of Anderlecht (12 points).
Racing Genk (10 points) can still keep up with the Bruggelingen if it wins Sunday against Waasland-Beveren. Anderlecht will receive Antwerp on the sixth matchday, Club Brugge will have to go to Zulte Waregem.
