Akon, the Senegalese-American singer and record producer, recently reflected on his past romantic relationships, sharing that life felt easier when he was surrounded by multiple women.
Speaking on The Shade Room, the 53-year-old commented on how his earlier lifestyle brought him ease and excitement sensations he says are lacking in monogamy.
My life was very much easier when I had multiple women surrounding me, but me being with just one woman isn’t just exciting, Akon said. However, when pressed about his current relationship status or the number of women in his life, he declined to elaborate, responding, I plead the fifth; it will be incriminating to answer.
In September 2025, Akon’s wife of 28 years, Tomeka Thiam, filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple shares a daughter named Journey.
Akon, whose real name is Aliaune Badara Thiam, has openly supported polygamy. In a 2022 interview on The Zeze Mills Show, he confirmed he is the father of nine children. Reports and claims from women such as Rozina Negusei, Amirror, and Tricia Ann Thiam have suggested that he has multiple wives.
Amirror, one of the women linked to Akon, revealed that they first met in 2012 through a mutual producer during music projects. She described their meeting as the beginning of a meaningful connection and said Akon signed her to his label, Konvict Kulture, in 2018, marking the start of their professional partnership.
Akon has also stated publicly that he believes men are not naturally wired to be monogamous.
