Nigerian Midfielder Alex Iwobi is like a player reborn as he continues to play some scintillating football Under new gunners boss Unai Emery
Iwobi returned to action and the Gunners starting line up Thursday Evening as Arsenal began their Europa League campaign with a 4-2 win against Vorskla Poltava at the Emirates and put up a man of the match performance.
Arsenals goals were scored by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who scored twice, Danny Welbeck and Mesut Ozil while Ukrainian side Vorskla gols were scored by captain Vladimir Chesnakov and Vyacheslav Sharpar who scored their second with virtually the last kick of the game.
The 22 year old Nigerian was by far the best player on the pitch and continues to look a different player under the new boss.
Iwobi created Arsenals first goal from a beautiful counter attacking move in the 32nd minute when he squared a delightful square pass into Aubameyangs path for the Gabonese striker to slide the ball into the bottom-left corner.
He looked brighter and livelier as he marauded from the left side of the attack looking like a player who had his confidence back , threatening players with his direct dribbling and skipping past defenders with ease.
In the 46th minute Iwobi, who so far was genuinely playing himself into a starting position against Everton on Sunday, drifted beyond his marker and crossed for an unmarked Mkhitaryan, who volleyed wide.
His combination with Arsenal Striker Aubameyang was deadly as the pair almost combined to score another in the 52nd minute but the Gabonese striker skewed his shoot from a delightful cross field pass again from Iwobi.
Iwobi was eventually replaced by another academy product Smith Rowe in the 71st minute to massive applause from the fans
