Army seizes weapons cache following gunfire alert in Delta

Security forces from the 63 Brigade, Sector 1 of the Joint Task Force South-South, Operation Delta Safe, have seized a cache of weapons during a raid in Ogidigben community, Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State.

The operation was launched in response to intelligence reports of gunfire in the area. Two suspects, believed to be connected to criminal activity, were arrested during the raid.

The Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Captain Iliyasu Bawa-Rijau, revealed the details in a statement issued in Asaba. He noted that troops acted swiftly on credible information and moved into the community to restore order.

Among the items recovered were four AK-47 rifles, six magazines, and 106 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. Troops also confiscated two knives, ten machetes, and four pairs of rain boots thought to have been used by the suspects.

The Army confirmed that the arrested suspects are in custody and undergoing interrogation as investigations continue.

Brigadier General Moronfolu Abdulmoshood Shonibare, Commander of the 63 Brigade, praised the troops for their prompt action and urged them to keep up the pressure on criminal networks in the region. He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to curbing the activities of armed groups and warned that anyone found with illegal weapons or involved in criminal acts would be tracked down and brought to justice.

Shonibare further cautioned residents against harboring offenders, emphasizing that security operations would be intensified throughout the area.
