Arsenal produced a breathtaking performance in Eindhoven, dismantling PSV 7-1 to take full control of their Champions League round of 16 tie.
The emphatic victory marks the Gunners’ biggest-ever away win in the competition’s knockout stage.
Jurrien Timber opened the floodgates in the 18th minute, heading home a pinpoint cross from Declan Rice. Moments later, 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly combined brilliantly to double the lead.
Mikel Merino capitalized on a defensive mistake to make it 3-0, but PSV found a glimmer of hope when Noa Lang converted a penalty following a reckless foul by Thomas Partey.
However, Arsenal crushed any hopes of a comeback early in the second half, as Martin Ødegaard and Leandro Trossard struck within three minutes of the restart. Ødegaard grabbed his second in the 73rd minute before Riccardo Calafiori sealed the rout in the 85th.
Mikel Arteta’s side was ruthless in front of goal, exploiting PSV’s poor defending to perfection. With a commanding lead, Arsenal are all but guaranteed a spot in the quarter-finals, where a tougher test awaits against either Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid.
