The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has confirmed that the postponed La Liga clash between Barcelona and Osasuna will now take place on March 27, despite both clubs appealing against the decision.
The original match, scheduled for March 8, was abruptly postponed just 20 minutes before kickoff following the tragic passing of Barcelona’s first-team doctor, Carles Miñarro. Both clubs contested the rescheduled date, but a judge ruled on Thursday that the fixture must be played as soon as possible.
Barcelona’s Fixture Headache
Barcelona, who currently share the La Liga top spot with Real Madrid, had argued that the new date severely impacts their squad due to international commitments. Several key players, including Raphinha (Brazil), Ronald Araújo (Uruguay), Fermín López (Spain U21), and Héctor Fort (Spain U19), could miss the match due to national team duties.
Meanwhile, Osasuna also faces scheduling concerns, as they are set to play Athletic Club just one day later on March 28. However, La Liga has moved that fixture to March 31 to allow for recovery time.
Barcelona’s Grueling Schedule
The Catalan giants now face a brutal run of four matches in nine days after the international break:
- March 27 – vs. Osasuna (La Liga)
- March 31 – vs. Girona (La Liga)
- April 3 – vs. Atlético Madrid (Copa del Rey semifinal, second leg)
- April 6 – vs. Real Betis (La Liga)
With their title chase and Copa del Rey ambitions at stake, how will Barcelona navigate this packed schedule?
