Brazil is in search of a new national team coach ahead of the 2026 World Cup, with Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola and Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti among their dream targets. However, securing either of them appears to be a difficult task.
Guardiola: An “Impossible” Option?
According to UOL, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) prefers Ancelotti, but Guardiola is also admired despite being seen as an “impossible” option.
The City boss has previously expressed interest in managing a national team, stating in 2024:
“I would like to train a national team for a World Cup or a European Championship. I would like that.”
However, with his contract at City running until 2027, a move to Brazil seems unlikely unless an early exit is negotiated.
Other Candidates in the Running
Aside from Guardiola and Ancelotti, Al-Hilal coach Jorge Jesus, Palmeiras boss Abel Ferreira, and Flamengo’s Filipe Luís are also on Brazil’s radar. However, the latter two are reportedly lower on the list of priorities.
Brazil will resume their World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador on June 4, and it remains to be seen whether a new manager will be in charge by then.
