Disgusting’ — DSS DG’s son slams Teni for not bowing to receive award from Buhari

Abba Bichi, son of Yusuf Bichi, the director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS), has called out Teni Apata, the singer, for not bowing while receiving the national honours award from President Muhammadu Buhari.

The singer was on Tuesday conferred with the member order of the Niger (MON) award at the National Honors Award.

Since receiving the award, Teni has been criticised by some social media users over what they described as her “discourteous demeanour” before the president.

While some critics argued that she should have accorded the president more respect by bowing her head, others claimed the musician “ignored” Buhari’s gesture to shake hands with her.

Weighing into the conversation via his Instagram page on Wednesday, Abba said the singer’s “arrogant” attitude was “disturbing and disgusting”.

The footballer also wondered why Teni could not emulate other high-ranking government officials who bowed their heads while getting their awards from the president.

“Orobo with zero sense even her excellency Okonjo bowed down her head as a sign of respect to the president and commander in chief of the armed forces likewise other high-ranking government officials,” he wrote.

“Who are you not to respect the president? This is disgusting and disturbing. Yoruba people are best known for their respect for elders but it got to your turn and you decided to be arrogant.”
