FIFA to punish clubs who didn’t release players for international duty

The Premier League clubs that refused to allow their players to join up with their national sides during this international break could face sanctions from FIFA.

Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United didn’t allow their Brazilian players to travel to meet up with their national teams, and they could now be penalised.

According to ESPN, FIFA are set to punish the English clubs who refused to release players to play in World Cup qualifiers by banning the players from the next round of league matches.

Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur did allow players to travel, leading to the suspension of Brazil’s match against Argentina after Emi Martinez, Emi Buendia, Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero didn’t complete mandatory quarantine in Brazil.

If FIFA have their way, Alisson Becker, Ederson, Fabinho, Thiago Silva, Roberto Firmino, Richarlison and Gabriel Jesus will miss their clubs’ next Premier League match.
