Floyd Mayweather: “Top Rank showed no respect to Shakur Stevenson in Oscar Valdez fight

Floyd Mayweather Jr. always had controversial statements when he was a boxer, now that he is also dedicated to promotion, the former world champion sent a message to Bob Arum and his company Top Rank about the treatment that boxers receive.

Last April 30, Oscar Valdez and Shakur Stevenson faced each other in a super featherweight title unification fight, the Mexican had the World Boxing Council title while the American had the World Boxing Organization title.

The fight was clearly won by Stevenson by unanimous decision and he proved to be one of the best boxers of the moment.

What didn’t Mayweather like about Valdez vs. Stevenson?

For Floyd, the way Top Rank promoted the fight was not the best, as they left the American fighter as the b-side and did not give him the attention he deserved.

Shakur Stevenson, an Olympic medalist, just beat a great fighter like Oscar Valdez, who looked amazing and is a great fighter,” he told fighthype.com.

“Likewise, you know what? Top Rank showed Shakur how little respect they have for him, because they positioned him as the B-side of the fight. They didn’t even put on sale the clothes with his image before the fight,” he finished.
