JLo and the Oscars snub that brought her down: “It was hard, I had low self-esteem”

Jennifer Lopez couldn’t hide her annoyance and disappointment after failing to land a nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category at the 2020 Oscars.

But what her fans didn’t know, is that the superstar was secretly devastated by the Academy’s snub after wowing critics with her role as a scheming stripper in ‘Hustlers‘.

It was hard. I had very low self-esteem, I had to really figure out who I was and believe in that and not believe in anything else

The extent of JLo’s pain is revealed for the first time in the Netflix documentary ‘Halftime,’ which will be released next month.

The new trailer for Jennifer Lopez’s documentary

The new trailer for the documentary was released this week, where the actress is seen sobbing in bed after the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences did not give her the award distinction for her performance.

“It was hard. I had very low self-esteem,” Lopez says in a voiceover. “I had to really figure out who I was and believe in that and not believe in anything else,” JLo added sadly.

Doubts about her acting abilityJennifer Lopez has long battled throughout her career with doubts about her ability and talent to perform and act.

Everybody was like, ‘She can’t sing. She can’t dance. She can’t act. She’s just a pretty face or her butt is big,’ or whatever they were saying about me. I started thinking, ‘Yeah, that’s true,’ and it really hurt me for a long time,” JLo told The New York Post in 2018.

Despite the hurt and the pain, I just kept going. I just couldn’t allow myself to let that become who I was,” the 52-year-old singer added.

The disappointment of not being nominated for an Oscar

Lopez was considered a sure-fire nominee for Best Supporting Actress after wowing critics with her standout role as a stripper named Ramona in the film ‘Hustlers’.

However, the star did not get the expected nomination in 2020, as Laura Dern, Kathy Bates, Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh and Margot Robbie were the five finalists to take the statuette.

In the end it was Dern who won the Oscar for her role in ‘Marriage Story.’
