Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde recently held a private meeting with Peter Obi, a 2027 presidential hopeful representing the African Democratic Party (ADC).
Obi was accompanied to the Governor’s Office by a delegation of prominent political figures from the South-East, including former Ebonyi State Governor Dr. Sam Egwu, former Enugu State Governor Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, former Anambra State Governor Chief Achike Udenwa, Senator Ben Obi, Dr. Oseloka Obaze, and Chief Onyema Ugochukwu.
After the meeting, Obi told reporters that the visit was part of consultations with Governor Makinde regarding a proposed coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, as well as broader efforts to advance Nigeria’s development.
We came to respectfully consult my brother, His Excellency the Governor of Oyo State, about building a coalition for the 2027 elections and, more importantly, about the progress of Nigeria. Our focus is on building a better nation — a country where every citizen, regardless of background, has the opportunity to succeed, Obi stated.
Asked what Nigerians should expect in 2027, Obi said: They should anticipate a better, more united, secure, and progressive Nigeria. Our aim is to transform the country from a consumption-based economy to a production-driven one, creating more employment opportunities for our people.
