A Manchester City mascot has claimed she suffered whiplash and a concussion after being playfully tapped by Erling Haaland before a Premier League match against Southampton last October.
According to The Sun, the woman—who was working as Moonbeam, one of City’s alien mascots—alleges that Haaland accidentally hit her on the back of the head, leading to nausea, neck pain, and concussion symptoms. She later reported the incident to the police, but Manchester City’s internal investigation found no wrongdoing.
Medical reports from Salford Royal’s A&E confirmed her symptoms, but a CT scan showed no damage. Meanwhile, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) concluded that Haaland had “not acted with malice.”
Mascot Accuses City of Cover-Up
Despite the findings, the woman believes the club tried to suppress the incident, claiming:
“I’m sure Erling would have apologised to me if they had given him the chance. But they just wanted to sweep it under the carpet.”
In response, a Manchester City spokesperson stated:
“The club fully investigated and found that none of the evidence, including video footage, backed up the claim that an injury was sustained in the manner alleged. We are also aware a complaint was made to Greater Manchester Police, and no further action was taken.”
Haaland Set for FA Cup Action
Despite the controversy, Haaland is expected to feature in Manchester City’s FA Cup quarter-final clash against Bournemouth on Sunday.
