Ondo Court remands two over armed robbery

A Magistrate Court sitting in Ondo Town, headquarters of Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State has remanded two persons in a Correctional Centre over alleged armed robbery.

The suspects Micheal Daniel, 18, and Olubajowa Monday, 37 were accused of robbing one Grace Fatoroki, Famakinwa Omotayo and Akinnuoye Blessing of their properties at gunpoint.

According to the Prosecutor, Iyabo Omolara, the defendants and others still at large allegedly committed the offence on February 10, 2021, at about 11:30pm, at Maryland Area in Ondo town.

The prosecutor informed the court that the defendants who threatened their victim with gun and cutlass, forcibly took FCMB Bank ATM Card, Polaris Bank ATM Card and Heritage Bank ATM Card as well as cash sum of N76,000.

They were also accused of stealing one laptop HP Pavilion G6 valued at N120,000, ITEL A56 valued N 45,000, Nokia 210 valued at N16,000, small ITEL phone worth N4,000 and one Gionee 11 Lite valued at N60,000.

Other items include; a pair of palm sandals valued at N5,000, one school bag valued at N7,000, two rechargeable and two touch light valued atN5,000, Tecno pop 2 valued at N3,000, 2 ITEL small phone valued at N10,000, and WS 1812 blue MP3 radio valued at N5,000, one Tecno spark 2 valued at N40,000, ITEL phone valued at N3,300, piggery bank (kolo) valued at N13,000 total valued at N435,000.

The offence was said to have contravened Sections 516, 401 and punishable under section 402 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

Omolara said that the defendants, while armed with dangerous weapons, including guns and cutlasses, were later arrested by the police.

The defendants are facing a three-count charge of armed robbery and conspiracy.
The pleas of the defendants were not taken.

The Magistrate, Mrs Toyin Olowookere, ordered that the case file should be sent to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP, for advice.

Olowookere adjourned the case till September 9, 2021, for legal advice.
