LOS ANGELES – Raul Jimenez delivered a match-winning performance as Mexico secured a 2-0 victory over Canada, booking their spot in the CONCACAF Nations League final.
El Tri wasted no time stamping their authority on the game, as Jimenez struck just 45 seconds in, calmly chipping the ball past Dayne St. Clair to give Mexico an early lead.
Canada pushed for an equalizer, but Jimenez crushed their hopes in the 75th minute, curling home a brilliant free kick to seal the win in front of a pro-Mexican crowd at SoFi Stadium.
Mexico Eyes Historic Nations League Triumph
With the victory, Mexico advances to the final on Sunday, where they will face Panama, who shocked the U.S. with a last-minute winner.
This could be a historic moment for Javier Aguirre’s squad, as Mexico looks to lift their first-ever Nations League title after falling short in the last two finals against the USMNT.
Canada Left to Regroup
For Canada, the loss is a step back after last summer’s strong Copa America run, where they reached the semis before losing to eventual champions Argentina. They will now face the United States in the third-place match.
Can El Tri end their five-year trophy drought, or will Panama pull off another shocker? Sunday’s final promises to be one for the history books!
