The Russian Football Union has confirmed that Moscow’s iconic Luzhniki Stadium will host a much-anticipated friendly match between Russia and Nigeria’s Super Eagles on June 6.
This clash will mark the first-ever senior-level meeting between the two nations.
The Luzhniki Stadium, which last saw Russia in action during a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Croatia on September 1, 2021, is set to roar back to life as Valery Karpin’s side takes on the African giants.
Before the showdown in Moscow, the Super Eagles will compete in the Unity Cup, an invitational tournament featuring Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago. Nigeria will kick off their campaign against Ghana at the Gtech Community Stadium in London on May 28.
Meanwhile, Russia’s schedule also includes a friendly against Belarus in Minsk on June 10.
The June 6 encounter offers both Russia and Nigeria a valuable opportunity to fine-tune their squads ahead of upcoming major competitions.
