Sam Smith abruptly ends show over vocal cord injury

Sam Smith, the English singer and songwriter, has cancelled upcoming concerts in Glasgow and Birmingham due to a “vocal cord injury”.

The 31-year-old singer, in a statement on Thursday, announced the development following last night’s incident where he was unable to continue his show and had to come off the stage.

Smith was forced to end his Manchester AO Arena show mid-show after the fourth song.

The singer added that fans are able to get refunds for the Manchester, Birmingham, and Glasgow shows.

Sam said the decision, which is “heartbreaking,” is based on doctors’ advice.

“Due to vocal issues during last night’s Manchester performance, regrettably we will be canceling the rescheduled Birmingham and Glasgow Sam Smith shows,” the statement reads in part.

“Refunds will be available at point of purchase for all three dates; Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow.

“Doctors have advised due to a vocal cord injury, Sam must have complete vocal rest.

“Sam is heartbroken and to have had to cancel these shows but they have been told by doctors that if they keep singing, they will do permanent damage to their voice. If they take some rest they will be able to perform again.”

Smith hit the limelight in 2012 after featuring on ‘Latch’, a hit project by Disclosure, the English music group consisting of Howard and Guy Lawrence.
