Will Smith’s slapping of Chris Rock was almost forgotten, and the former was just about seeing his name fall away from the headlines when he decided to release an apology video almost half a year later.
With it, Smith‘s name is back in the news cycle and a lot of people have been discussing the video he posted to his YouTube channel.
Since its publication, US Weekly have reported that the video was not actually Smith‘s own idea, and the plan was actually thought up by wife Jada Pinkett Smith.
Pinkett wasn’t alone in suggesting the video’s recording though, and her public relations team were also behind the idea. They believe the incident has negatively affected their Red Table Talk podcast.
Jada Pinkett Smith pressured Will Smith into apologising for Chris Rock slap
“Jada has been pressuring Will to apologise,” said US Weekly. “It has been affecting her Red Table Talk podcast for a while now.
“Her team wanted to wait for the controversy to die down, but it didn’t. It’s become impossible to believe that his career can go on without him addressing the slap.”
The video showed Smith speaking to camera and discussing the incident, also polarising to Chris Rock and the comedian’s family. Rock is yet to comment.
There are also rumours that Smith might have apologised in order to get his name back in the headlines ahead of the release of his new film, Emancipation.
