Victor Valdés was taken to hospital to undergo tests, which confirmed that he has torn the cruciate ligament in his right knee and will have to undergo surgery which will sideline him for between six to eight months.
The Barcelona and Spain keeper is ruled out for the rest of the season, and has therefore left the club prematurely (given that he was not staying on next season) and will miss this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
