Residents of Igboho, Oyo State, erupted in celebration after a kidnapped family including a pregnant woman, her children, and a sibling were reportedly freed.
Their release followed a two-hour ultimatum issued by prominent Yoruba activist Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho.
Videos circulating on social media captured the joyous scenes, with large crowds singing, dancing, and rejoicing as the family returned home. The incident came after Igboho delivered a stern warning to suspected Fulani community leaders in response to growing cases of kidnapping and insecurity in the area.
In an earlier viral video, Igboho was seen addressing local representatives and traditional rulers, expressing outrage over persistent abductions and alleged killings in the community. He directly accused some members of the Fulani community of involvement in kidnappings, referencing previous incidents, including one where a pregnant woman was abducted and a ransom negotiation reportedly ended in tragedy.
The person who brought the ransom, you still killed him and spared only one person, Igboho stated, vowing that such acts must never happen again.
He issued a two-hour deadline for the release of remaining abducted victims, emphasizing that he was showing restraint only out of respect for appeals from traditional leaders.
I am Sunday Igboho. I am calm because my fathers asked me to be calm with you. Let this be the last time such a thing will happen, he declared.
Igboho warned that failure to comply would trigger decisive action, including the possibility of storming suspected hideouts linked to the kidnappings.
Shortly after the ultimatum, new videos emerged showing jubilant crowds celebrating what was described as the release of the kidnapped family. However, at the time of reporting, the exact circumstances surrounding their freedom remained unclear.
