Djokovic wins his 18th Grand Slam to move within two of Nadal and Federer

Novak Djokovic beat Daniil Medvedev 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 in the Australian Open final to secure his ninth title at the tournament and 18th Grand Slam overall.

As such, the 33-year-old Serb now finds himself within two of Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer, who both have 20 Grand Slam titles and have the joint-most of all time.

It took Djokovic one hour and 53 minutes to beat Medvedev, as the current world No.1 put in a very comfortable display to emerge victorious in Melbourne for the third year in succession.

“There are a lot of mixed feelings in the last month over tennis players coming to Australia,” Djokovic said after his win.

“It wasn’t easy, it was challenging on many levels – [but] thanks to the organisers for making it happen.”

Djokovic‘s final words were directed towards the crowd at the Rod Laver Arena.

“Every day, I love you more and more,” he said.
