Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti remains optimistic that Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr will not face suspension ahead of their crucial Champions League quarter-final clash against Arsenal.
UEFA has confirmed an investigation into the conduct of Mbappe, Vinicius, Antonio Rudiger, and Dani Ceballos following Real Madrid’s victory over Atletico Madrid in the Round of 16.
One of the incidents under review involves Rudiger, who was allegedly caught making a throat-slitting gesture toward Atletico Madrid fans. Additionally, a viral clip on social media appears to show Mbappe making a crotch-grabbing gesture toward the opposition supporters.
If found guilty, the players could face disciplinary actions ranging from fines to suspensions, posing a major setback for Los Blancos in their Champions League campaign.
Ancelotti Dismisses Allegations
Despite the controversy, Ancelotti downplayed the situation, expressing confidence that UEFA’s decision would favor his team.
“We believe everything was correct, and we trust that UEFA will reach a fair decision. Our players didn’t do anything wrong,” he told reporters.
Spanish media reports suggest Atletico Madrid filed an official complaint, alleging that Real Madrid players taunted their fans, which led to objects being thrown onto the pitch. However, Ancelotti insists that his squad was merely celebrating their victory.
“We are confident in UEFA’s verdict. The players were just celebrating—that’s all.”
Title Race Heats Up
As Madrid awaits UEFA’s ruling, Ancelotti remains focused on the La Liga title race, where his side trails Barcelona by three points.
“Barcelona has an advantage, but we will fight until the very end. I hope we have 17 matches left in all competitions until the season ends,” he added.
