Manchester United legend Teddy Sheringham has slammed Andre Onana, telling the Red Devils goalkeeper to “shut up” and focus on delivering performances after a heated exchange with Nemanja Matic backfired.
The drama began when former United midfielder Matic, now at Lyon, branded Onana “one of the worst goalkeepers” in the club’s history. Onana fired back, boasting of winning more trophies at Old Trafford than Matic ever did. But the Cameroonian stopper endured a nightmare first leg, gifting Lyon two goals in a chaotic 2-2 draw.
Speaking to CasinoHawks, Sheringham said:
“I’m all for passion, but it’s not about the past or talk it’s about performance. You need to shut up and hold your tongue sometimes.”
Though United advanced to the Europa League semi-finals after a thrilling 5-4 win in the second leg, Onana’s shaky displays continue to raise questions. Despite this, Saudi Pro League clubs are reportedly circling, willing to match his £200,000-a-week wages.
With a semi-final against Athletic Club looming on May 1, Onana has a crucial chance to silence his critics this time, with his gloves.
