The Lagos State Police Command has announced the arrest of suspected notorious hitmen belonging to the Aiye cult gang, linked to multiple violent crimes and killings in Ajanmgbadi, Ojo, and surrounding areas.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, identified the suspects as Emmanuel Nwokolo, alias Oblo (35), Ayola Israel, alias Essy awpaw (39), Ebuka Nnamdi (31), and Chinedu Okafor (22).
According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended at a hotel in Ajanmgbadi, Ojo Local Government Area, following credible intelligence received by the Command.
Adebisi revealed that preliminary investigations uncovered evidence of the suspects’ involvement in violent criminal activities. A video recovered from one of the suspects’ mobile phones reportedly depicted the killing of unidentified individuals in Ajanmgbadi and neighboring communities.
The spokesperson further disclosed that the suspects confessed to being members of the dreaded Aiye Confraternity and admitted to terrorizing residents through a series of killings and other violent crimes.
Further police searches led to the recovery of two locally fabricated pistols, one revolver pistol, and thirteen live cartridges believed to have been used in the commission of various crimes.
Adebisi stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of the suspects’ involvement in other criminal cases, identify additional gang members, and apprehend all accomplices. She added that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police commended the operatives for their successful operation and reassured the public of the Command’s commitment to eradicating crime and bringing perpetrators of violent acts to justice.
