Canada-based Nigerian to stand trial for alleged child sexual assault

A Canada-based Nigerian, Idris Olajide Oladejo, has been charged with sexual assault and sexual interference after an alleged incident involving a child at a Toronto grocery store.

According to two statements from the Toronto Police Service obtained by us, Oladejo, 35, was arrested on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, after investigators identified him as the suspect in the case.

Police reported that the alleged assault occurred on Sunday, June 21, around 7 p.m., in the area of Victoria Park Avenue and St Clair Avenue East. Officers responded to a call reporting that a child had been sexually assaulted while shopping with their parents. The suspect reportedly fled the scene but was pursued by a civilian.

Following the incident, police released a description of the suspect—described as a man around 30 years old, thin build, last seen wearing a green T-shirt, dark-colored Adidas shorts, and pink Crocs—and appealed to the public for information that could aid their investigation.

The Toronto Police Service later confirmed that Oladejo had been charged with one count each of sexual assault and sexual interference. He was scheduled to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. in room 102.

Authorities clarified that, under Canadian law, sexual assault is defined as any unwanted sexual contact, including but not limited to kissing, grabbing, oral sex, and penetration. Police emphasized that these charges are allegations and that Oladejo is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
