Marvel Studios has officially announced British actor David Jonsson as the new Black Panther, set to lead the third installment of the acclaimed superhero saga.
Jonsson’s casting was revealed at Marvel’s Hall H panel during San Diego Comic-Con, where the studio also confirmed that Black Panther 3 will hit theaters on December 15, 2028.
Jonsson, 33, will portray Prince T’Challa II—the son of the late King T’Challa and Nakia—who made his debut as a child in 2022’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” The upcoming film will chart the young prince’s coming-of-age as he steps up to inherit the mantle of Wakanda’s legendary protector.
Director Ryan Coogler returns for the third film, with Letitia Wright and Winston Duke reprising their roles as Shuri and M’Baku. Following Chadwick Boseman’s passing in 2020 after a private battle with colon cancer, Marvel chose not to recast T’Challa, instead passing the Black Panther legacy to Shuri and introducing T’Challa’s son, creating a path for the next generation.
With Jonsson now set to take on the iconic role, “Black Panther 3” promises to usher in a bold new era for Wakanda, as the superhero legacy continues with Prince T’Challa II at the forefront.
