A self-styled Edo spiritualist, Solomon Odigie Moses, has been sentenced to one year in prison for defrauding an Indian woman of $1,100 under the guise of providing spiritual healing, in a scheme that involved sextortion.
Moses was convicted by Justice C.N. Nwabulu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, after pleading guilty to a one-count charge of cheating and impersonation brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to the EFCC, Moses who was arrested in Ekpoma, Edo State posed as a spiritual leader named “Dr. Solomon” on a fake TikTok account.
He persuaded the victim, Sharon Kaur, to perform a naked “spiritual bath” over a live video call, which he secretly recorded. Moses then threatened to release the footage unless she paid him $1,100, which she transferred via Zelle. The funds were later converted to Naira and deposited into his local bank account.
The EFCC’s investigation revealed that Moses laundered the proceeds of the crime and used deception to extort money from the victim. The charge stated:
That you, Solomon Odigie Moses (a.k.a. Dr. Solomon), sometime in 2026 in Abuja, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did fraudulently impersonate a spiritual leader…and obtained the sum of $1,100 from an Indian lady named Sharon Kaur, for the purpose of spiritual prayer and assistance, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 321 of the Penal Code Act (Abuja) LFN, 1990 and punishable under Section 322 of the same Act.
Following his guilty plea, prosecution counsel Maryam Hayatudeen urged the court to convict and sentence Moses. Justice Nwabulu subsequently sentenced him to one year imprisonment with an option of a N300,000 fine, and ordered that the $1,100 be forfeited to the victim through the EFCC.
