Miroslav Klose, who scored the second goal for Germany against Brazil in the 23rd minute, is now the top scorer in World Cup history, with 16 goals in four tournaments.
Klose scored 12 years and a week after making his World Cup debut as a forward. His latest strike surpasses Brazilian player Ronaldo, who put the ball in the back of the net 15 times over the course of three world campaigns, in 1998, 2002 and 2006.
The German marksman, responsible for the equaliser against Ghana in the group stage, has scored in all the tournament final stages he has taken part in (2002, 2006, 2010 and 2014).
The Polish-born player opened his World Cup scorecard with a hat-trick in the landslide victory over Saudi Arabia (8-0) on 1st June 2002 in the Korea-Japan World Cup. He ended the tournament with 5 goals to his name. In Germany 2006 he notched up another five, in South Africa 2010 he came away with 4, and now there have been 2 in Brazil 2014.
