Laycon says his mother might not have survived if he hadn’t won BBNaija

Laycon, the Nigerian rapper, has revealed that winning the fifth season of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) played a crucial role in saving his mother’s life.

During a recent appearance on the ‘Echo Room’ podcast hosted by former BBNaija housemate Teddy A, Laycon shared that his mother was gravely ill before he joined the reality competition.

He recounted how, while he was isolated in the BBNaija house, his mother’s health worsened considerably, a situation he was completely unaware of until after the show.

“When I was in the house, my mum was ill. By the time I came out, my mum was close to death,” he said.

Laycon emphasized that not winning the competition could have led to tragic consequences for his family. I am saying it categorically now, if I didn’t win that show, if I had come back second, my mum would be dead now, he declared.

Born Olamilekan Agbeleshebioba, the 32-year-old artist shot to fame after clinching the BBNaija title in 2020. He later released his anticipated mixtape ‘Kashimaawoo’, a deeply personal project dedicated to his late father.

Laycon has also opened up about losing his inner voice following his BBNaija victory, highlighting the personal challenges that accompanied his rise to stardom.
