Pep Guardiola Criticizes Manchester United Fans for Derogatory Chants at Phil Foden’s Mother

Pep Guardiola has strongly criticized Manchester United fans for their derogatory chants aimed at Phil Foden’s mother during the Manchester derby on Sunday at Old Trafford.

The incident occurred when Foden was substituted off in the 58th minute and replaced by Jeremy Doku. As Foden exited the pitch, sections of the United crowd were heard directing offensive chants at his mother. The match, which ended in a goalless draw, saw the Red Devils and Cityzens both unable to break the deadlock in a drab encounter.

Guardiola Slams the Lack of Class

Speaking to reporters after the game, Guardiola was visibly upset by the incident and condemned the behavior of the fans involved. The City manager expressed his disappointment, stating that such actions reflected a lack of integrity and class.

“Lack of class. But it’s not United, it’s the people, you know? We are so exposed in the screen in world football – managers, owners, and football players especially. Honestly, I don’t understand the mind of the people involving the mum of Phil. It’s a lack of integrity, class, and they should be ashamed.”

Guardiola’s remarks highlighted the need for respect in football, pointing out how fans can often take things too far when it comes to personal matters.

Manchester Derby Ends in Stalemate

Despite Manchester City having the chance to reclaim their top-four position, the goalless draw against United left them disappointed. Without the influence of star striker Erling Haaland, City’s attacking play looked lacking in the final third. On the other hand, United held on to a point, maintaining their 13th position in the league.

What’s Next for Guardiola’s Side?

Looking ahead, Guardiola’s men will be back in action next Saturday when they host Crystal Palace at Etihad Stadium in a bid to bounce back and keep their top-four aspirations alive.
