On Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenzky addressed the media and claimed that he is urging for peace, regardless of the terrible attacks on Bucha and all other attacks on civilians during this Russian invasion. However, he is also asking from more weapons and ammunition to defend the east of Ukraine.
The Associated Press met with the Ukrainian leader just a day after the death of apparently 52 people who were killed during an attack on a train station in the city of Kramatorsk.
This is another proof of civilian casualties by the Russian attacks
.
“No one wants to negotiate with a person or people who tortured this nation. It’s all understandable. And as a man, as a father, I understand this very well,” President Zeenzky commented. “we don’t want to lose opportunities, if we have them, for a diplomatic solution.”
During the interview with AP he wore the traditional Olive attire that he has worn after the attacks started, as a sign of respect and empathy with all the troops that are defending the country.
He was in a built fortress that has served as a Presidential office complex, all its windows and hallways protected by sandbags and full military detail armed to the teeth on each part of the facilities.
Volodymyr seemed exhausted, but with a clear mind and a resolved purpose to look for conflict resolutions.
“We have to fight, but fight for life. You can’t fight for dust when there is nothing and no people. That’s why it is important to stop this war,” The Ukrainian President mentioned.

Russian troops are now regrouped in the Donbas region and the Ukrainian military is defending that area as they did with the hold on Mariupol, which according to Zelenzky has been “the heart of the war”
It’s beating. We’re fighting. We’re strong. And if it stops beating, we will be in a weaker position,” he said.

On the matter of peace, he mentions that he trusts that the Ukrainians will accept peace rather than keep the atrocities happening where many people have courageously given their lives to protect the common good.
