Sir Idris Elba, the acclaimed Hollywood actor, has been formally knighted by King Charles III in recognition of his dedicated charitable work supporting young people.
Elba’s knighthood was first announced in the King’s New Year Honours list in December 2025. The official investiture ceremony took place on Tuesday at Windsor Castle, where Elba was bestowed with the title Sir Idris.
The annual honours list celebrates individuals who have made remarkable contributions across the United Kingdom and beyond, with this year’s recipients recognised for their achievements in sports, humanitarian services, education, drama, and the justice system.
The Royal Family marked the occasion with an Instagram post congratulating the honourees. Elba himself shared a playful video on social media, holding up an Arsenal jersey emblazoned with Sir Elba.
Congratulations to everyone who received honours at today’s Investiture ceremonies, hosted by The King at Windsor Castle, the post read.
