Liverpool are serious Premier League title contenders. After beating Manchester City 3-2 at Anfield, the Reds now depend on themselves to lift the title. Their 25-year wait for a league title may be coming to an end, but what are the keys to Liverpool’s success this season?
.Luis Suárez: The Uruguayan has notched up 29 goals this season. He is the most in-form player in the Premier League, if not the world. He is a contender for this season’s Golden Shoe and his influence on his team’s game could not be greater.
.Gerrard is playing in a deeper role: The Reds’ veteran captain has taken a few steps back in Brendan Rodgers’ 4-3-3 system and has become a pivotal part of Liverpool’s distribution play from the back. He has found a perfect, less physical role for himself in midfield.
.Greatly improved players: This is Henderson’s third season at Liverpool. It’s Coutinho and Sturridge’s second. These three players cost the club €45m. They are now shining under Brendan Rodgers’ tutelage. Both Henderson and Sturridge will be key to England’s World Cup aspirations this summer in Brazil.
.Fortress Anfield: Liverpool have turned Anfield into an almost impregnable fortress. The last time they lost there was against Southampton back in September. Since then the only points they’ve dropped at home were in their draw with Newcastle.
