Chioma Okafor, a forward from the University of Connecticut in the United States, has been invited to join the Super Falcons training camp in Lisbon ahead of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Gidipoint reports.
The 20-year-old attacker has officially chosen to represent Nigeria, ending the uncertainty about her international future.
Born to a Nigerian father and a Malawian mother, she had been eligible to play for either country. After talking with both football associations, she decided to play for Nigeria. The Malawian Football Association confirmed her decision and wished her success.
Okafor is known for her speed and strong goal-scoring skills. Her presence is expected to boost Nigeria’s attack as the team aims to win its 10th continental title.
The Super Falcons will begin their training camp in Lisbon soon. They are scheduled to play a friendly match against Portugal, followed by another match against Ghana’s Black Queens in Morocco.
This call-up marks a major step in Okafor’s career and could lead to her debut on one of Africa’s biggest football stages.
WAFCON 2025 is scheduled to kickstart on July 5 in Morocco.
Nigeria’s Super Falcons is gunning for her tenth title since winning the first edition hosted in 1998 by Nigeria.
