Concern for Belgium and Real Madrid as Hazard suffers a new injury

Belgium advanced to the quarter-finals of Euro 2020 with a 1-0 victory over Portugal on Sunday night, but their night was soured by injuries to two key players. Kevin de Bruyne and Eden Hazard both suffered issues at La Cartuja.

De Bruyne was forced off at the start of the second half with an ankle injury after a strong challenge from Joao Palhinha, before Hazard also had to come off later into the half.

The Real Madrid man pulled up holding the back of his right thigh, before Thibaut Courtois commented on the situation at full time.

“It doesn’t look good,” Courtois said, while coach Roberto Martinez said that the forward will go for tests on Monday.

Hazard‘s injury comes after he had shown signs of regaining his rhythm and his best form in recent weeks on his return to the national team.

Whilst the extent of his injury has not yet been confirmed, the Belgium captain’s frustrated expression at full time was significant, with a bandage around his right thigh.

It would be his seventh injury of the season, having suffered six during the campaign for Real Madrid alongside a positive COVID-19 test, as he missed a total of 182 days during the club season.
