Veteran Nigerian reggae singer Buchi Atuonwu has shared the emotional and spiritual journey that led him to leave his former cult group.
Speaking in a recent interview on Black Flame, Buchi revealed that he walked away from the group after a divine encounter that completely changed his life.
“Jesus showed me the real meaning of the cult. It wasn’t just a physical association. It was spiritual. You can’t bring a knife to a gun war,” he said.
Buchi recalled a chilling moment around 2 a.m., during a ritual procession where people were carrying coffins and red lamps, while he was performing.
“Someone spoke into my ear and said, ‘You don’t belong here.’ I ignored it at first. When I heard it again, that’s when my problems started — running from cultists, the police, and more,” he recounted.
Now a born-again Christian, Buchi has since dedicated his music and life to spreading the gospel through reggae.
