The Lagos State Government has refuted claims that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been asked to resign due to health reasons, labeling such reports as false and misleading.
In a statement released on Monday by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the government dismissed an online report as baseless.
“We have observed with concern a fabricated report alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been ordered to resign on health grounds, with the Deputy Governor set to assume office. This story is entirely false. No one has asked the Lagos State Governor to resign; it is simply another example of fake news,” the statement read in part.
The statement further emphasized that Governor Sanwo-Olu remains in good health, is of sound mind, and continues to perform his duties as Governor of Lagos State.
Addressing additional rumors about a political meeting between the Governor and his deputy, the government clarified, “Earlier today, the Governor received Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who paid a courtesy visit to formally notify him of his intention to contest for Governor. The meeting was cordial and routine.
The Lagos State Government urged the public to disregard the false report and treat it as fake news. It reaffirmed that Governor Sanwo-Olu is fully engaged in governing the state and continues to discharge his responsibilities without interruption.
