Five police officers detained in connection with Delta singer’s killing

The Delta State High Court has ordered the remand of Usman Nuhu, a police officer accused of fatally shooting 28-year-old singer Oghenemine Mene Ogidi, popularly known as OG Millan, in Effurun.

The case drew widespread attention in April after a video circulated on social media showing an officer, allegedly from the Delta State Police Command, restraining the musician with his hands tied behind his back before he was shot. The footage, which showed the victim seated on the ground, sparked public outrage and calls for justice from across Nigeria.

Delta State Police spokesperson Bright Edafe confirmed that Nuhu was arrested and transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for disciplinary proceedings. Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu subsequently approved the Force Disciplinary Committee’s recommendation to dismiss Nuhu from the police.

On Monday, Nuhu appeared in court alongside four other suspects: Onoloko Dauroupamo, Okoh Kelechi, Goodluck Kingsley, and Omonigho Ahweyevu. All five were arraigned under charge number DTHC/ASB/CR/M/66c/2026 and ordered to be remanded.

Human rights advocate Harrison Gwamnishu said the court directed the suspects be held at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre pending further trial proceedings. He described the arraignment as a significant step forward in the pursuit of justice for the victim.
